Funding will enable BIFoR-FACE and AmazonFACE in Brazil to participate in a knowledge exchange.
The technical team at BIFoR FACE has been awarded £26k from the UK Met Office to support AmazonFACE in Brazil as its new Free-Air CO₂ Enrichment (FACE) facility approaches operational readiness following the construction phase.
Over recent years, the University of Birmingham's BIFoR FACE facility has worked closely with the AmazonFACE project, sharing expertise, protocols and best practice for operating a large-scale forest FACE experiment. The new funding will support exchange visits between the two facilities, strengthening collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The Brazilian team will travel to Staffordshire for a two-week placement alongside the University of Birmingham team during the winter maintenance period, which should provide quite a contrast in weather for their colleagues from the Amazon. Later, the BIFoR FACE team will travel to Manaus to deliver a workshop on forest FACE operations and provide practical support in the field, helping to establish operating protocols and troubleshoot systems as the facility moves towards full operation.
