The team at the Glensaugh research farm at the James Hutton Institute have won funding from the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund to build a green hydrogen demonstration project as part of their new Climate-Positive Farming Initiative at Glensaugh

It will be designed to provide more than 100% of all energy needs of the farm and associated community using renewable energy and water. This is a part of the jigsaw for land managers to reduce or even remove their dependence on fossil fuels, and contribute significantly to net zero targets.

This new project adds to their ongoing work at Glensaugh on woodland expansion (which is part of the LTE MOORCO), new work on peatland restoration, and grassland diversification. All of this will have a strong focus on achieving multiple benefits and not just carbon.
